There is no bigger event at ICSB each year than the international basketball tournament - The Winter Classic! This year's event was no exception. Read on for more details.
The weekend was filled with many basketball games, much cheering, music, and memories made. The event is a special time for the ICSB family to come together, enjoy fellowship, and have the opportunity to share our culture of faith and love here at ICSB with our visitors. We hosted schools from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Austria.
Students and staff brought their best spirit to each day of Bulldog Week to build excitement for the weekend's festivities. Each day's theme brought out ICSB's spirit and creativity, and the school was abuzz with smiles, laughter, and a lot of color!
As is tradition, the weekend kicked off with a pep rally to get everyone ready to cheer on our Bulldogs throughout the tournament. The rally included a raucous introduction of our Varsity Boys and Girls teams, flashing lights, crazy music, performances by the ICSB Dance Team, and a celebration of our Bulldog Spirit Poster Contest winners.
ICSB families poured into the gym immediately after the pep rally to see the first games. Overall, 24 games were played on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Our young Varsity Girls team came into the weekend after a big win earlier in the week against BISB and played hard against all the tournament opponents. Despite coming up short, they showed tenacity and perseverance through each game. We know they have grown stronger and better with each game. We are proud of their tremendous efforts and look forward to the continued growth and success that will come.
The Varsity Boys placed third overall after battling against some strong opponents. It was exciting to watch them hustle and play so hard! They lost a close one against TOIS on Thursday evening and returned to prevail against them on Saturday. It was a fun way to end the weekend!
We appreciate the overall efforts of ICSB Athletic Director John Burgess and his team in bringing this event together. Managing all the details takes a tremendous amount of time and focus. We also commend the Junior Class for their hard work in providing delicious snacks, special American candy options, and really cool tournament t-shirts.
The 2024 Winter Classic was not just a showcase of athletic talent but a celebration of community, resilience, and the spirit that defines ICSB, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. Go Bulldogs!
