Name Games by Day, Payne Gains by Knight

Which Came Before: Chicken, Egg, or Dinosaur?

Telephone a Friend: Ask Lower School HoCo!

The Lower School's House Kick-Off event was largely student-run, with 8th-grade House Captains stepping up to plan and lead games for their younger housemates. Teachers were on hand to encourage and support these student leaders as they took on this new challenge.

Our Pre-1st through 2nd-grade students gathered outside by the basketball hoops, where House Captains divided students into their Houses and led them in name games, like Name Tag, followed by a choice of "Telephone" or "Duck, Duck, Goose."

Our 3rd through 5th graders played the telephone game as well, along with "Clap-Clap-Snap-Snap," "Would You Rather," and "Egg-Chicken-Dinosaur," which notably filled the schoolyard with teredactyl noises and poses.

To close out the Half-Day, our 6th through 8th graders circled up for one final group game. The task at hand was to find everyone who shared their birthday month and line them up in order by day as quickly as they could.

"No Payne, No Gain"

Upper School HoCo's Incredible Dodgeball Night

Two days later, our Upper School House Council hosted its first event of the year, the beloved tradition, the fierce yet friendly competition...Dodgeball Night. Students formed teams of five, including Upper School boys, girls, and teachers. Every participant earned a point for their House, and teams made up entirely of students and staff from the same House earned double the House points.

Team names certainly didn't lack creativity! "Knights for Payne," "The Incredibles," "Beach Baddies," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "The HitMin," "Mission ImPROMsible," "Ghosty," and the "Freshies" all took the court, ready to duck and dodge the ball and dive into first place.

In the end, the "Knights for Payne" were the last team standing and claimed the title. Like they always say, "No Payne, no gain!" Congratulations to the champions!

Let's give a big "Clap-Clap-Snap-Snap" to our Lower and Upper School House Councils for planning and leading, our staff for helping, and Bulldogs for playing and cheering for each other!

It was a joyful start to this year's House Events, as students continue to build friendships across grades through fun games!
