This year's Summer Reading Challenge struck gold with an Olympic theme and a podium full of students, setting the participation record!
In honor of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the summer reading program was Olympics-themed this year.
Held in Budapest, the "Paris of Central Europe," the Summer Reading Olympic games included events like "Consistent Reading," "Reading with a Friend" (a team sport,) and "Reading a Longer Book Than You've Ever Read," a long-distance event requiring much stamina and resilience. Students gained points by completing the different challenges. New events were added this year in the form of various art challenges. Students could draw a character, a setting, a book cover, a bookmark, etc. to earn points. Mrs. Tricia Fraser loved seeing all the incredible artwork that was submitted. Breakdancing has not yet been added to the ICSB Summer Reading Olympic Games.
This fun, optional summer reading program is vital. Reading through the summer advances students' progress in their reading abilities and prevents them from falling behind during the long holiday.
A record-breaking 31 students participated this year. Here are the avid readers of this stacked podium by age group.
