Auditions are complete, rehearsals have begun, Middle Grades cast and crew are all set to have fun!
Grab your fur coats and get ready to walk through that Wardrobe because the Middle Grades musical, Narnia, is underway!
Auditions for this year's Middle Grades musical, Narnia, based on C.S. Lewis' best-seller, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," took place this past Monday in the West Building Music Room. Mrs. Rebecca Lingenhoel and Ms. Luiza Sekkar helped students prepare for auditions during their audition prep session on the Thursday prior. Sixth through eighth graders worked hard to prepare their best performances, eager to secure roles in this magical musical and beloved story. Callbacks followed on Tuesday. Excitement was high, and the support the middle graders showed one another was heartwarming. Students found out the roles they had been cast in on Wednesday, and the rehearsals already began, starting with the first one yesterday, Thursday, September 12th! What a week!
Auditions can be nerve-wracking; stage fright is a very real thing, but much like the children in the story, our Middle Grades students truly displayed bravery during auditions this week.
Peter did not feel very brave; indeed, he felt he was going to be sick. But that made no difference to what he had to do. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
It also takes immense courage to step up and perform in front of friends and family, and we are so proud that so many Middle Grades students are willing to do so to tell this incredible and important story!
Why, Sir,’ said Lucy. ‘I think – I don’t know – but I think I could be brave enough. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
This year's Middle Grades musical also gained significant support from ICSB's Upper School students, many of whom have volunteered to be a part of the crew. We are proud of their heart to serve their younger schoolmates behind the scenes. "If they do their job well, you will not see them," -said Mrs. Lingenhoel of the musical crew.
The musical is a great opportunity for students to use and develop their gifts, build community with one another, and tell a story that is based on an even better true story. In the words of C.S. Lewis,
If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.
As our Middle Grades and Upper School students enter into the production of the magical world of Narnia, may it also inspire in them, and eventually in their audience, a greater desire for the other world we were all truly made for.
