That's a Good Argument!
Candace Jefferies
Ms. Wingler's fifth-grade class spent the majority of quarter three learning how to craft a compelling argument about a debatable issue.
They considered a variety of issues, such as:
- Are school uniforms good or bad?
- Should students have phones in school?
- Do students need recess?
- Should Pluto be designated a planet?
To fully prepare to argue their positions, student teams researched and used their learned skills to understand the author's point of view and possible bias. They analyzed various sources and even learned how to outline a debate.

Finally, it was time to turn their research into a presentation. Each group spiffed up and presented their position on a debatable issue and countered what the other side might have to say, using facts from their research, of course!

They sure can make a good argument!
