In Their Own Words

We asked these folks to share WHY they coach our #ICSBudapest students. It will warm your heart. You will want to find these people and thank them personally for what they do. And we would love it if their words inspired others in our ICSB family to volunteer and coach a team in the future. There is so much more to this than just wins and losses.

Suzanne Cole I coach because I love spending time with them, and I love how the relationship is different on the court than in the classroom. I love being a part of their struggle as they learn and grow, and being there when they achieve something they have been working so hard for is a real privilege. Plus, it's super fun!

Chris Fletcher  I coach because it is great to see the students develop and grow in confidence as the season progresses. I love the competitive aspect of games, problem-solving, and working toward a common goal. Finally, I love getting to know the students in a different environment from the classroom.

Rachel Wingler  I coach because there is something so special about the relationships formed with the students in a competitive setting. I love seeing students grow into whole people on and off the court. I also think it is a unique opportunity to show and build Christ-like character in the athletes. I love seeing them accomplish their goals after working so hard together. Coaching is one of the greatest blessings in my life!

Anna Hughey  Character building. Coaching allows me to help these athletes understand who they are on the court matters and reflects who they are off the court. I want them to learn how to play with integrity and humility, and the key to that is to know that their worth comes from the Lord and not by how good or bad they did in a game.

Gary Rickard  So that kids at the school will learn teamwork, improve skills, and have fun.

Beni Kiss I think coaching is a great way to disciple students. You get into situations that are not common in the classroom, and sports are a great way to connect with them and come alongside them in life. I learned a lot from the students through coaching them. (Growth for both the athletes and the coaches). I truly enjoyed playing soccer with the guys - it was fun coaching them!

Christa Lloyd I love the sport, team, and competition… and I want these kids to have every opportunity to explore and enjoy the game of soccer!

Andrii Petrenko It was a great opportunity to serve and invest in boys. Any sport is a good opportunity for leadership and holistic development. The sport might help to model many life situations, and it can teach valuable life lessons.

Vitalli Ozernyy For me it's a great opportunity to serve our students and to help them to grow strong and be able to deal with difficulties in their lives.
