Passport to ICSB’s International Festival

Passport to ICSB’s International Festival

From the Parade of Nations to cultural performances and delicious homemade dishes, this year's International Festival brought our community together in a celebration of diversity.

Walking into the ICSB gym for this year’s International Festival, attendees were immediately immersed in a world of vibrant colors, delicious aromas, and the cheerful hum of conversation. The event was a spectacular showcase of the diversity within the school community, where students, parents, and staff came together to celebrate the many cultures represented at ICSB.

The festival began with a Parade of Nations, where students proudly carried flags from their home countries, and representatives placed flag ornaments on the ICSB Tree of Nations, symbolizing the many nationalities within the school. This grand opening set the stage for an afternoon filled with fun, food, and family.

By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. -Revelation 21:24-26

One of the most anticipated parts of the festival was the food. ICSB families lovingly prepared and shared dishes from their home countries, allowing everyone to experience authentic flavors from around the world. From fragrant Ethiopian coffee to freshly rolled Korean kimbap and steaming bowls of Hungarian stuffed cabbage, every table offered an adventure. It was a feast not only for the stomach but for the heart—a testament to the hospitality and warmth of our community.

In order to experience these tasty treats, attendees received festival passports, granting them access to each country’s table and its unique offerings. As they visited different tables, they collected "stamps" to mark their journey through the many cultures represented.

Beyond the delicious food, the festival provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with others. As attendees moved from table to table, they met parents who shared stories of their home countries, students who proudly introduced the traditions of their heritage in national dress, and teachers who engaged in conversations about global cultures.

This year’s festival was particularly remarkable as it saw more countries participating than in previous years. Families presented their cultures through food, music, displays, and a variety of on-stage performances. Korea, Bulgaria, Slovakia, USA, Hungary, Finland, Colombia, France, Nigeria, China, and Ukraine all shared either a dance, music, or interesting facts about their home cultures. Some even taught their traditional dances to the audience, encouraging everyone to participate.

A heart full of gratitude goes to the Parent-School Association for organizing this beautiful event. They began preparing and planning early last year for this year's event. Their hard work and dedication ensured that the festival was not only a success but also a memorable experience.
