Out to the Ball Game

Out to the Ball Game

Mrs. Rebecca Lingenhoel took the ICSB Ensemble "out to the ball game" last Friday, where they hit it out of the park with their performance at the opening ceremony of an international tournament.

The Ensemble put their Baseball jerseys on, went "out with the crowd...[bought] some peanuts and Cracker Jack," and put on a grand slam show at the 8th Annual International Youth Tournament, hosted by the Érd Baseball and Softball Club.

The competition included U13 and U16 division teams, who had gathered from Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Czechia, Poland, and the host country, Hungary.

While everyone enjoyed the Ensemble's fun and timely performance of Jack Norworth and Albert Von Tilzer's "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," their real home run was their performance of the Hungarian National Anthem, Himnusz, written by Ferenc Kölcsey, and composed by Ferenc Erkel. After weeks of rehearsing this historic lament, they practiced performing the piece by singing it to every Hungarian Upper School staff member the day before at school, much to the staff's delight. ICSB teachers, Hungarian baseball fans, and players alike appreciated the Ensemble's thoughtful gesture in learning the Himnusz. Opening an international tournament in Hungary, with an international ensemble from an international school in Hungary singing the Hungarian National Anthem, was a special gift to all those involved.

We are so proud of our Ensemble not only for their pitch-perfect performance, but for using their gifts to be a blessing to many from all over the continent.
