Students Serve the Young and Old, In the Name of the Lord

Students Serve the Young and Old, In the Name of the Lord
Olivia Baker

From playing music to painting softball fields, students at this year's National Honor Society (NHS) service day served wholeheartedly.

Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people.

Ephesians 6:7 (NIV)

The NHS Service Days were designed to emphasize and develop student leadership. NHS members took charge of communicating project details with their teams and helped organize and lead their teams through their service projects. Students and staff were divided into eight teams, each assigned to a different service project.

Diósd, Érd...

Five service teams stayed in the Diósd, Érd area to serve our local community, meeting a variety of needs. Whether to teach English or make campus improvements, some students stayed at ICSB, but most served throughout the Diósd area.

Team 5 stayed at ICSB and hosted students from Diósd Elementary School, leading conversations and games to help them practice speaking English. Team 7 walked to local retirement homes and used their musical gifts to gift the residents with a performance, awing their audiences.

Team 1 spent the day outside, working on playground updates and other property improvements at local óvodas, while Team 4 walked all over Diósd, cleaning up parks and picking up trash in public spaces.

Team 3 also got some fresh air, helping the Érd Baseball and Softball Club with field improvements, like moving a water line and painting the field.

...And Beyond

A few teams ventured into the city to serve schools and alongside ministries in Budapest.

Team 6 partnered with Kempelen Farkas Gimnázium, engaging in English-learning activities with local high school students. Team 8 supported Youth With a Mission (YWAM) by helping repair and improve King’s Gate and its facilities. Finally, Team 2 served at the Salvation Army, gardening, cleaning, and helping serve lunch at their men's homeless shelter.

Thank you to NHS members and their sponsors, Mrs. Lingenhoel and Ms. Smith, for organizing this day that both helps our students grow, while taking an active role in the flourishing of our local communities.

Throughout the day, students were encouraged to serve with joy, and honor the Lord by keeping Ephesians 6:7 and Colossians 3:17 at the forefront of their minds and hearts, reminding them that...

...whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)
