Newton's Laws of Motion - Proven!
Candace Jefferies

Mr. Tarbell tasked his 8th Grade Science students to demonstrate Newton's 3 Laws of Motion.

These students were challenged to think critically and utilize their communication skills to prove the theories fully. They showed their creativity through the objects selected and their presentation of the information to prove the laws.

Who remembers the three theories?

The three laws of motion were first stated by Sir Isaac Newton in his Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), originally published in 1687.

  1. A body remains at rest or in motion at a constant speed in a straight line unless acted upon by a force.
  2. When a force acts upon a body, the time rate of change of its momentum equals the force.
  3. If two bodies exert forces on each other, these forces have the same magnitude but in opposite directions.
