New and All Staff Orientations come to a close as the staff expectantly prepares for another great year at ICSB!
We are excited to extend a heartfelt welcome to our new staff members who have joined us from around the world, from South Africa to the Philippines!
The first week of New Staff Orientation (NSO) was a blend of introductions, discussions of school policies and philosophies, and a glimpse into the rich heritage of Hungarian culture, including its famously challenging language, followed by a taste of its cuisine.
After a brief Hungarian lesson, new staff were treated to a special Hungarian lunch prepared by Mr. László Fehlinger. Traditional Hungarian Beef Stew paired with pogácsa, a beloved Hungarian roll, followed by fruit and sweet cheese (túrós) strudel, known as rétes, were on the menu. The day continued with a tour of Diósd, where the group made perhaps the most important stop of the tour, the "kürtőskalács" (chimney cake) stand. After such delicious treats and a glimpse into ICSB leadership's heart for students and staff, our new colleagues ended the week with full bellies and full hearts.
This week, after wrapping up NSO on Monday, we welcomed back our entire staff community for the All Staff Orientation (ASO,) which began on Tuesday. The event opened with a beautiful worship song, "God I Look to You" by Ian McIntosh and Jenn Johnson, performed by Lívia Hausel Némethné, setting the tone for the days ahead.
ASO was an opportunity for returning staff to meet the new staff, reconnect with each other, prepare for the new academic year, and be updated on school policy and facility changes. Our Director, Dr. Kristi Hiltibran, shared her heart for the new school year and important policy changes, which you can find in the announcements section of the ICSB Weekly. Mr. Attila Hajdú shared about the facility updates that took place during the summer, including the West Chapel, East Stairwell, and a playground repair that is still underway. The following days were geared toward instructional staff. Friday, the final day of ASO, included a prayer walk, for which every staff member had the opportunity to post prayer requests on their doors. ASO wrapped up with a delicious welcome lunch of butter chicken for the board and staff.
Every morning of ASO started with coffee and devotions by the leader of our chaplain team, Mr. Dan Culbertson. In his moving and creative devotionals, the staff was prompted to explore the practical applications of our new Spiritual Formation theme, "Heart, Head, and Hands." This new theme focuses on loving God and others with our whole being, thoughts, emotions, desires, actions, and habits all working together. This new Spiritual Formation model will be discussed further in the coming weeks.
Both NSO and ASO gave space for staff to prepare their hearts, minds, and classrooms for another school year with great expectations of seeing God move in the lives of students and the entire community.
