ICSB made waves at its first-ever swim meet at AISB this past weekend! Read on for details on the record-setting wins!

For the first time in ICSB history, our brand-new Upper School Swimming Club competed in their first competition at AISB last weekend, and what a splash they made!

ICSB's Upper School Swimming Club, a team of seasoned swimmers and those looking for something new to dive into started meeting for practices in early December. Led by Swimming Club Sponsor Mrs. Edit Márton, they competed in their first-ever Danube Valley Athletic Conference Swim Meet at the American International School of Budapest this past weekend.

The Swim Club made an outstanding debut. Most of our swimmers achieved their personal best in their events. But the achievements did not stop there. The team 'just kept swimming' and winning.  Zsigmond B. (also known as Zsiga), a student who has been leading the practices, had an especially exciting day. He showed off his years of experience as a competitive swimmer and dominated the pool. First, he won the 50m breaststroke and set a conference record. Then he went on to win the 50m butterfly. Beyond his undeniable performance in the pool, Ms. Marton shared her thoughts about his character and leadership as a teammate. "I am also proud of and thankful for Zsiga. All the students really look up to him. He's so good at guiding them and leading them. He put them first at the meet, even though he was racing too. He is very humble. It was really great to work together with him."

Later, in the 4x50m freestyle, our boy's relay team made waves by securing 3rd place in this highly competitive event.

This marks a historic milestone for ICSB sports, and we couldn’t be prouder of our swimmers. We are thankful to Ms. Márton for sponsoring and head coaching the team, Zsigmond B. for helping the rest of the team prepare for this meet by leading practices, Ms. Hannah Hocutt for lifeguarding, and Mr. John Burgess, our Athletic Director, for continuing to expand the athletic opportunities our school has to offer! Go Bulldogs! Ms. Márton had this to say about the Swimming Club and their first meet:

We are tremendously proud of them. They go to their practice every Wednesday at 6 am before school. Even if they don't go to any meets, just this would be an accomplishment already. They have already learned a lot and improved their form, diving, flips, etc. [...] The whole thing is so exciting and fun because I get to see these students and watch them grow, but we are also a part of school history, so that's cool.
