5th Grade Students wrote and acted out a Star Wars-themed, Bible-inspired short film, allowing them to hone their creative and effective communication skills.
Students created their own movie script and performed a live play for their English project. They made their props and costumes and picked a fitting soundtrack. They wrote a fantastic storyline.
The movie script they wrote was based on Star Wars. However, they integrated metaphors they drew from the Bible and Jesus' sacrifice into the storyline. To summarize the plot, two galaxies collided, and a type of Christ sacrificed Himself and rose from the dead for the unity of the two galaxies. In their unity, they built a church at the end. The enemy forces turned from the dark side and chose good.
This project allowed students to use the literary elements of a story they had been learning about throughout this unit in their English class. Students did so with great passion and dedication to the project's success.
This project is one of many daily examples of teachers incorporating our Expected Student Outcomes (ESOs) into their curriculum. One of these ESOs is for students to become Effective Communicators. That means they can articulate a biblical worldview, read, write, create, listen, speak skillfully and graciously, and work collaboratively with others. In this project, fifth-grade students incorporated their Biblical worldview into their storytelling. They creatively wrote and skillfully presented a short film script to their teacher and families. This being a group project, by nature, was a collective collaboration. We are thankful to our 5th-grade teacher, Ms. Anabella Alquisola, for creatively incorporating our ESOs into her lessons, allowing her students to grow in these areas in fun, imaginative ways.
