History: Still Up For Debate

History: Still Up For Debate
Susan Cooper

The hot-button issue? Was America’s westward expansion justifiable? Students engaged in thought-provoking discussions and sharpened their critical thinking while tackling this complex historical question.

In a recent debate led by Ms. Rachel Soderberg, Upper School 9th and 10th-grade U.S. History students discussed the justifiability of America’s westward expansion by presenting arguments on its benefits and consequences. With guest judges from both Upper and Lower School staff, students explored the complexities of Manifest Destiny, analyzing both the opportunities and consequences that came with territorial expansion.
