We all know we can taste, smell, see, hear, and touch, but Ms. Hocutt wants to teach her 1st graders that there are different elements to the Five Senses and how they all work together.
Her class has spent the last couple of weeks exploring how we use each of the sensations and how they help us live our lives. God provides us with these fascinating skills to help us be safe and enjoy the world we live in.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:14
Her students did a scavenger hunt on campus to identify how they used their senses when encountering different people and places. They heard people singing, saw their shadows on the playground, and smelled lab chemicals in the Upper School biology classroom. The students recorded the different senses they used as they explored. The students also spent time reading books and identifying the five senses in stories.

And finally, the students got to use their senses in a class activity - making and cooking pancakes! The smiles said it all! They loved touching them (but not getting burned on the griddle!), smelling the different ingredients, watching them rise, hearing them sizzle as they cooked, and eventually tasting them. Yum!

Ms. Hocutt makes learning so fun!
