The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at ICSB encourages Middle Graders to find significance in their Savior, not their stats.

FCA equips and empowers athletes...

...to grow in Christ and lead others to do the same. Specifically at ICSB, FCA meetings are designed with two primary intentions: to foster a deeper relationship with Christ in each student, and to help students discover how they can glorify God through their athletic talent.

Middle Grades is a season that plays a highly formative role in a student’s life as they navigate these impressionable years of change. We are grateful for the intentional care and mentorship Mr. Lash and members of the Upper School Student Athlete Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.) provide to students through our FCA program during this crucial time.

It's a great way to foster discipleship relationships between Upper School and Middle Grades students and grow in leadership and relationship with Christ, using this opportunity to bring glory to God in the world of athletics.

Faith-based programs like the FCA play a meaningful role in today's world of athletics by pointing athletes toward a deeper sense of calling beyond competition. Today's sports rhetoric teaches that significance and identity are found in awards and accomplishments. It sends the message that value comes from achievement.

The Good News of the Gospel offers a different message. All human beings have infinite worth simply by bearing the image of God. In Christ, we are also given everlasting identity.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us...[we] boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Romans 5:8, 11b

We are no longer measured by our performance, because our identity is in Christ, and the victory he has already won through his death and resurrection. Through weekly meetings and Bible Study, FCA at ICSB seeks to provide our Middle Graders with a space to be built up together in their identity in Christ, rooted and founded in his love, and thus freely work towards the unified purpose of glorifying God in every area of their lives, including, but not limited to, athletics.

Mr. Lash's goal for the program in the coming years is to see each student grow in community, in their understanding of success, and in their relationship with Christ Jesus and His Church. FCA also points students beyond themselves. The hope is that they will live out their faith with purpose, integrity, and leadership, beyond the court and classrooms of ICSB.

Before Jesus ascended into heaven to be with the Father, he gave us a command to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). We hope these students will become active disciple-makers, multiplying the kingdom on their sports teams and in their future communities.
