ROW! Pizza. ROW!

ROW! Pizza. ROW!
Olivia Baker

Juniors rowed, rowed, rowed their dragonboats merrily down the Danube. Throw in some pizza, and it was but a dream.

Thirty-one paddles coursed through the water, pushing two 300 kg row boats across the Danube. The rowing chant of choice? "ROW! Pizza. ROW! Pepperoni. ROW! Ham and corn..."

Led by the professional rowing guides off the Island of Csepel in Budapest, the junior class enjoyed a day on the water racing dragon boats, soaking in sunshine, and engaging in a little friendly competition, creating strong class bonds and memories for the remaining two years of high school to come. A few brave souls even jumped into the water and cooled off in the Danube.

They continued their celebrations with a pizza lunch. Perhaps it was in anticipation of this that they chanted "ROW! Pizza. ROW!..." When asked why they chose pizza as their chant, Ms. Culbertson responded:

Pizza is the best motivator...I was going to say for the students, but let's be real, for everyone!

She expanded on the heart behind this exciting excursion.

With so many new students joining our class, we wanted to do something fun, something challenging, something we'd never done before. This 'junior challenge' was a great way to get to know our new classmates and to boost our #community and #growth as a class.

Junior Class Sponsor Ms. Rachel Culbertson

We are grateful for class sponsors like Ms. Rachel Culbertson and Mr. Beni Kiss, who go the extra nautical mile to foster unity, community, and make newcomers feel welcome among the Junior Class.

These gigantic dragon boats served not only as vessels for the junior class to have some fun in the sun, but Ms. Culberston also floated the idea of a deeper meaning. In a dragon boat, every oar matters, and every person pushes to help the boat reach its goal. At ICSB, every student matters, and this adventure was a great reminder of the challenges and joys that come with being part of a team.
