Schnitzel, Tea with Scones, plays, museums, venturing up the TV Tower and along the Cam river, this year's Academic Field Trips had it all!

Over Spring Break, Upper School students had the chance to step outside the classroom and into the pages of history and literature during two immersive Academic Field Trips to Berlin and to London.

Berlin

Six students and three teachers traveled to Berlin, where they engaged with world history across multiple eras, ranging from Ancient Egyptian and Greek exhibits to Holocaust memorials and remnants of the Berlin Wall.

The group also explored modern German landmarks such as the Parliament building and the iconic TV Tower.

Beyond the historical insights, students experienced cultural and linguistic immersion by sampling traditional German cuisine like Wiener Schnitzel, pork knuckle, and Curry Wurst, and attending a play performed in German. They even got to visit the Berlin zoo! What a fun, immersive way to learn!

London

Meanwhile, ten students and two teachers journeyed to London for four exciting days packed with history, literature, and British tradition. From the British Museum and the National Gallery to Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London, each stop brought the past to life.

Their evenings consisted of various cultural experiences. These included going to see the West End Production of Wicked, evening prayer at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and getting to be "groundlings" at the Globe Theatre for the opening night of Romeo & Juliet!

Of course, they could not get the full experience without stopping for High Tea with delicious fresh scones. They also squeezed in some shopping, and after not being able to find tickets to an Arsenal game, the football fans of the group shared the quintessentially British experience of watching a football game in a local Pub.

One day, their adventures took them on a scenic day trip to Cambridge, where they punted across the River Cam and explored ancient manuscripts at the historic Wren Library.

It was a very full four days!

Both trips offered incredible opportunities for students to broaden their perspectives, build lasting memories, and connect classroom learning with the wider world.
