Ms. Wingler's class read a book about communication without talking and accepted the challenge!

"No Talking" by Andrew Clements depicts a challenge between boys and girls in a 5th-grade class. The students compete to see who can spend the most time without speaking. It turns into a great learning experience when their teachers and school administrators, initially perplexed, recognize the opportunity to teach important communication lessons.

In the spirit of the book, Ms. Wingler's 5th-grade class recently had a "no talking day." Students could only communicate without speaking, except in limited circumstances (3-word phrases) with teachers - and only when the teachers engaged with them first. The class was divided into teams to work on a Lego project that had to be designed and constructed without speaking. This activity not only brought the story to life in a real, tangible way but also promoted communication skills, self-control, teamwork, and integrity.

Ms. Wingler shared her thoughts about the day.  She said, "It was really interesting to see the way that students worked together to communicate as well as how to overcome challenges. Students showed great sportsmanship and grew to understand why our words are so valuable. They liked the challenge but were very eager to talk again once the day was over!"

Undoubtedly, the day's challenge made fun memories for the whole class.
