Our Mock Caldecott!

Our Mock Caldecott!
Tricia Fraser

Grades 1-4 voted on their favorite Caldecott books last week. Who were the winners?

We've enjoyed a lot of award-winning books in our Early Grades' library classes this month, as we've been learning about the Caldecott and other book awards!

At the end of January, each class got to pretend they were on the Caldecott committee and vote for their favorites.

Here are the winners!

1st grade mock caldecott

1st grade.

No, David! by David Shannon. Students always enjoy reading about David's crazy shenanigans.

Rumpelstiltskin by Paul O. Zelinsky. This retelling of the classic fairy tale delights with beautiful artwork.

2nd grade mock caldecott

2nd grade.

Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick. One of my favorites! Students are always surprised by the twist mid-way through the story.

They All Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel. A fun tale about different perspectives.

3rd grade mock caldecott

3rd grade:

Creepy Crayon! by Aaron Reynolds. Fun, creepy, but with a great moral.

The Truth About Dragons by Julie Leung. A powerful perspective on blending cultures, using dragon mythology as a framework.

4th grade mock caldecott

4th grade:

Don't Trust Fish by Neil Sharpson. This brand new book is going to be VERY popular on our shelves!

Knight Owl and Early Bird by Christopher Denise. A sweet sequel to Knight Owl with beautiful artwork.

Remember to stop by for our Used Book Sale next week during the Winter Classic!!
