What Happens at a Library Conference?

What Happens at a Library Conference?
Tricia Fraser

Last week, Kate Smith and I had the opportunity to attend the International School Librarians of Europe (ISLE) conference in Amsterdam.

This conference has existed for awhile in other parts of the world, but it was only the second time they've had one in Europe.

Because this is the first librarian conference we've attended, we've heard many questions about what we did there.

The best part was the people!

We attended with a small cohort of librarians from other Christian schools around Europe - BFA, CISP, and GGIS. We had never met any of these ladies and we had a great time of sharing and collaborating with them

We also met librarians from Budapest! THREE Budapest schools were represented at this conference, but we'd never met each other. We now have plans for more get-togethers in the future!

We met librarians from all over Europe, and beyond, and had opportunities to discuss many challenges facing libraries today.

We heard great presentations on a wide variety of topics, like:

  • How to implement a student librarian program
  • Family book clubs
  • Building a reading culture from elementary to middle school
  • Supporting academic integrity and research skills in the age of AI
  • Multilingual collection development for international schools
  • Reigniting student engagement with reading

And so much more!

Over Seventy Librarians from Around Europe, Africa, and Asia too!

The pre-conference day involved a book tour, with the author of a new graphic novel about the Dutch Resistance. See more about that next week!
