This week we are highlighting Christian books for early grades students. Check out some of the great books we have available. There are a LOT! 

Here are some Christian picture books you can read with your kids. 

 

Love Made: A Story of God's Overflowing, Creative Heart by Quina Aragon.

This is a simple, illustrated retelling of the story of Creation ends with a mother's affirmation that her child is the most special person ever made. Beautiful artwork! We also have the book, Love Gave, by this author. 

The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village by Francis Chan. 

Reveals the special purpose God has for believers through a parable in which the people in a happy little village spend weeks pushing and pulling the big red tractor through the fields until Farmer Dave finds a manual that explains the tractor can move by itself.

Gigi: God's Little Princess by Sheila Walsh.

Gigi, who has always known she is a princess, is confused at first by her parents' explanation of what makes her royal.

You Are Special by Max Lucado.

This is a classic work and contains a parable in which a wooden puppet's understanding of his value changes after talking to his creator. We have many other titles by Max Lucado as well. 

Frog's Rainy-Day Story and Other Fables by Michael James Dowling. 

This book tells eight whimsical fables and then contrasts the wisdom of the world with the wisdom of God's word.

Christian Non-Fiction Books 

We have so many Bible story books and books about the Bible to choose from. Here are just a few examples. 

The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings us Back to the Garden by Kevin DeYoung. 

Featuring chapters that are short enough to be read in one sitting, this illustrated Bible story book imaginatively retells the biblical narrative in one continuous story, helping kids connect the dots from Genesis to Revelation.  

The God Contest: The True Story of Elijah, Jesus, and the Greatest Victory by Carl Laferton

This book is from a series called Tales that Tell the Truth. They are all wonderful and we are adding them to our library as fast as they are published. Each one tells a Bible story and then shows how it points to Jesus. This one deals with Elijah when he challenged the prophets of Baal.

God Made Boys and Girls: Helping Children Understand the Gift of Gender by Marty Machowski

In a world where there is so much confusion about gender and identity, pastor and best-selling author Marty Machowski shares the simple, clear truth that all of us are made in God's image as either male or female and what God made is very good! Included at the back of the book is a special section just for parents and caregivers that gives biblical guidance and help as they have this important conversation with their children.

Courageous World Changers: 50 True Stories of Daring Women of God by Shirley-Raye Redmond

Meet women who have used their God-given talents to live out their faith to the fullest. They come from a variety of backgrounds, eras, and ethnicities, but each one has answered the Lord's call on their life in bold and innovative ways.

BloodHounds Inc. by Bill Myers - mystery series

Sean and Misty, a brother and sister detective team, investigate some thefts and mysterious electrical disturbances at their father's radio station.

Hank the Cowdog by John R. Erickson - mystery series

Can mystery books be funny? You bet! This first book is also a sold adventure about loyalty.  

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls by M. J. Thomas - historical fiction series

The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series follows siblings Peter and Mary and their dog, Hank, as they discover ancient scrolls that transport them back to key moments in biblical history.

Blinded by the Shining Path, from the Trailblazer Books by Dave & Neta Jackson - a historical fiction series

The Trailblazer Books action-packed historical fiction introducing great Christian heroes. Each page-turner portrays a significant period in a hero or heroine's life and ministry as seen through the eyes of a young protagonist. A page in the front explains exactly what is fiction and which events and characters are historical, and a “More About” chapter at the end provides a brief biographical overview of the hero's life. 

Red Rock Mysteries by Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry - mystery series

Watch out! The Timberline twins are on the loose. Bryce and Ashley are ATV-riding tweens from Colorado who unearth action-packed mystery and adventure wherever they go. These fast-paced books will keep even reluctant readers on the edge of their seats. 

Winnie the Horse Gentler by Dandi Daley Mackall - an animal stories series

As Winnie teaches her horses about unconditional love and blind trust, God shows Winnie that he can be trusted too. Readers will be hooked on the series' vivid characters, whose quirky personalities fill Winnie's life with friendship and adventure.

Mandie by Lois Gladys Leppard - mystery series

For children 8-13, mystery adventures set in the North Carolina backwoods at the turn of the century. This classic set of mysteries has been a favorite in our library, and we have new editions arriving sometime this summer! 

The Cul-De-Sac Kids by Beverly Lewis - mystery series

When their new Korean sisters do not arrive at the airport, Abby and Carly have a mystery to solve, with God's help. This series is great for kids who are just starting to read chapter books. 

 

Library schedule notes:

All library books are due back by May 27th!

There is no book check-out between May 27th and June 8th. 

On June 8th and 9th, books can be checked out for the summer, but only to students who are returning to ICSB in the fall. 

Remember that we will be open every Wednesday through the summer from 9:00 - 12:00.
