WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A STUDENT CARD?
According to the government decree on educational identity cards, any student studying at a Hungarian educational institution, officially recognized by the government is eligible to apply for a Student Card. ICSB students in grades 1-12 meet this requirement and can apply for a Student Card.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A STUDENT CARD?
This process applies to Hungarians and ex-pats alike. Watch the official Student Card Application Process video HERE (in Hungarian).
1. GET YOUR 'NEK' ID
First, you need to register a NEK ID* at a document/government office (okmányiroda/kormányablak). *NEK is the National Unified Card System Data Sheet.
The student will need the following documents to register a NEK ID (if the student is under 14, one parent will need to bring his/her own documents as well):
Hungarian citizens:
- Hungarian ID card (személyi igazolvány) OR passport
- Address card (lakcímkártya)
Ex-pats:
- Passport
- Address card (lakcímkártya)
- Residence permit
When you register for the NEK ID, you must:
MAKE SURE that the PERSONAL DATA ENTERED ON THE NEK DATA SHEET MATCHES EXACTLY WHAT OUR SCHOOL HAS ON RECORD FOR THE STUDENT! Please pay SPECIAL ATTENTION to the spelling of names, address, birthplace, etc.
If the data doesn't match, the Student Card application will be rejected, and you will have to start the process from the beginning!
Registering a NEK ID is free of charge. You will receive a document with the student's NEK ID (called data sheet) at the document/government office, on the spot.
PRO TIP: Keep the NEK data sheet because you can use it for 5 years for other official document applications and management.
2. SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION AT THE SCHOOL
Once the student has the data sheet with the NEK ID, you can apply for a Student Card at our Reception with Ms. Ibolya Sági.
Please bring the following to the Admission Office:
- Data sheet with NEK ID
- Address card (lakcímkártya)
3. PICK UP THE STUDENT CARD
The Student Card will be issued in 30-60 days and will be available to pick up at our Reception.
A temporary certificate is issued by our Receptionist at the time of submitting the Student Card application that will allow the student access to all benefits immediately.
For more information, please contact Ms. Ibolya Sági (isagi@icsbudapest.org) via email.
STUDENT CARD VALIDATION
The Student Card is automatically valid until the end of the school year in which the student turns 16. Students who have turned 16 must bring their Student Card to the Reception at the beginning of EACH following school year (by October 31, the latest) to receive a yearly validation sticker, otherwise their Student Card will not be valid.
The Student Card is valid until October 31 of the year in which the student's legal relationship with the Hungarian educational institution ends.
