Tobin Payne
Meet Tobin from the United States, who attended ICSB for 3 years in this Senior Spotlight.
What have you been involved in at ICSB?
One year of band, chapel team, 3 years of basketball, 3 years of volleyball, and StuCo.
Share about a teacher(s) and how they have impacted you positively.
Mr Fletcher was really welcoming in my first year when I had him for chemistry and Christian studies. He tried hard to make class fun, and I could tell he cared about us and if we were actually learning. He was also always asking me how I was doing and how I was adjusting to living in Hungary. Miss Stowell has also been an awesome teacher and knows a lot about what she is teaching. Her classes sometimes got derailed by side conversations and rabbit holes, but in the best way possible, so it didn't just feel like a lecture. Also, Miss Spence has had to deal with me every year in History and somehow never threw a chair at me, so I feel like that's got to be commended.
What’s your favorite thing or memory about ICSB?
I don't have a specific memory, but one thing that stands out was Mrs. Curby's English class sophomore year. It was the last time I felt like our class was fully united, struggling but struggling together. After that, everyone had different APs. There was also just a lot of funny memories from things that happened in that class, and the content was interesting.
Share a favorite book you read while you were a student at ICSB? And why did you like it?
I really enjoyed the Inheritance cycle. It felt similar to The Lord of the Rings in the way that it just immersed you into a whole different world, and there was really good character development.
What has been the highlight of your senior year?
There isn't one specific highlight; the thing that stands out the most is all the good times with other people, from my class and the ones below. It felt difficult being the oldest ones in school, and knowing a lot of the tone was set by us, but it also felt good to set an example for others. Everything also felt extra special because I knew it was the last time, so I tried to live it up to the fullest.
What are some of the ways you’ve grown since you first came to ICSB?

I am headed back to California, and I'm most likely going to community college in my hometown
