Meet Lana from the United States, who attended ICSB for 4 years in this Senior Spotlight.
What have you been involved in at ICSB?
4 years of basketball, 4 years of choir and Honors Music Festival, 3 years of NHS, 3 years of AV crew.
Share about a teacher(s) and how they have impacted you positively.
I've had so many teachers who have impacted and encouraged me through the past years. Mrs. Márton has been such a sweet teacher, always happy to talk or laugh with me. Just being able to wave at her from across the hall brightens my day. Mrs. Lingenhoel has seen my talents and love for music and challenged me so much to grow those gifts and be more confident with them. Mrs. Lingenhoel has also told my class so many ways that God has worked in her life and has given me glimpses into the nature of God. I don't know where I would be without her, but she has truly helped me to flourish. Lastly, Mrs. Culbertson has been a great supporter through all things, but especially being able to talk about Russia with her was so dear to my heart. She's one of the few people who understands my side of the story, and I'll always be grateful to have someone to share that with. So many others have poured into me over the years, and I cannot finish without saying thank you to all the staff at ICSB <3
What’s your favorite thing or memory about ICSB?
I love the amount of community events that take place every year. I can think of all of them, like the Fall Retreat, the Christmas Party, the Winter Classic, Honors, and the Musicals. Each year they happen, they're a little different, but the whole community comes together to enjoy and celebrate the work of others.
Share a favorite book you read while you were a student at ICSB? And why did you like it?
One of the most impactful books I read was Radical by David Platt in a class taught by Mr. Southwell. It did so much to remind me that even though I live in a Christian school and in a Christian environment, being a follower of Christ is so much more than being comfortable.
What has been the highlight of your senior year?
This year's Honors Music Festival was certainly the capstone of my time here at ICSB. I doubt I will ever be able to sing in St. Stephen's Basilica again, so I will not be forgetting that any time soon! It was such a privilege to be a part of, and I would treasure the memories and friendships I made there.
What are some of the ways you’ve grown since you first came to ICSB?
Something I'm more proud of is that I am less afraid to mess up. I can do all I want to be smart and follow instructions, but that doesn't mean I'll never mess up. Despite the negatives, I always come out of mistakes knowing more and being more confident.
Will you be attending college next year?
What are your future plans?
I plan to go to the University of Missouri to study nursing!
