Meet Avalynn from the United States, who attended ICSB for 7 years in this Senior Spotlight.

What have you been involved in at ICSB?

I have been a leader on the Chapel Team for most of my time at ICSB. I have also been in the choir this year and helped with costumes and makeup for the Musicals.

Share about a teacher(s) and how they have impacted you positively.

ICSB is blessed with so many wonderful and impactful teachers. In my time here, I have never had a teacher who has not impacted me. That being said, Mrs. Marton has taught me both in middle school and high school, and has taught me more than just language skills. She has been someone I can talk to and has shared her wisdom with me whenever I have needed counsel.

What’s your favorite thing or memory about ICSB?

It's hard to say which is my favorite memory, because I have so many. My favorite thing has been the people and relationships I have made in my time here. In big events like banquets and tournaments, and in the more mundane things, we have all struggled and succeeded together. Having people who stand by you through every event and moment has been something I am extremely grateful for.

Share a favorite book you read while you were a student at ICSB? And why did you like it?

Kindred by Octavia Butler. This is a really interesting science fiction book that was really engaging and interesting to read. It is about a woman who is magically transported back in time to the south during slavery and how she fights to survive the times.

What has been the highlight of your senior year?

The highlight this year has been being able to come late to school because of senior privilege. I also really enjoyed the retreat and the banquet.

What are some of the ways you’ve grown since you first came to ICSB?

I came to ICSB in 6th grade, so I have grown and changed in many ways. I think the most significant way is in knowledge and responsibility, as I have learned what I am interested in and how to be independent.

Will you be attending college next year?

Yes

What are your future plans?

I am planning on going to West Virginia University in the US and will study psychology.
