In this Senior Spotlight, meet Kidus "KD", who joined the Class of 2022 in September.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?

"Congratulations" by Post Malone (the clean version of course 😀)

What’s your favorite TV show or movie?

Scorpion on CBS.

What have you been involved in at ICSB?

I played for the varsity basketball team, it was great!

How long have you been at ICSB?

Since last September.

What’s your favorite place on campus and why?

The weight room/gym because those are the places where I feel like I'm in my zone and I can focus to work on myself. It makes me feel better.

How have your teachers impacted you?

I have a lot to say about all of my teachers, I had a great time with them and I had a lot to learn. I'm mentioning the ones I feel like I had a closer connection with:

Ms. Olandt has helped me look at Math differently. I always thought I didn't like it but Discrete Math and how she taught it to us made me change my mind about this class. She has helped me solve a problem when I thought it was impossible, encouraged me to use another method to overcome a challenge, and even showed me how to use fair division to give fair slices of pizza to people. Thank you so much for making Math fun :)

Mr. Eding was the best bible teacher! He has shown me how to look at life from a biblical point of view and that has changed my life. Bible class at the end of the day with 6 students was always fun. Thank you, Mr. Eding.

Mr/Coach Smith - I consider him one of my best teachers because I believe I learned a lot from him. During the basketball season, he has never failed to motivate the whole team and get us in the right mood to play and win. The practice was always the best because he pushed us to get to our goals and beyond. The 10 ups and downs we had to run every practice were the toughest yet showed us what no pain no gain meant. Thank you coach for making my first and last ICSB season amazing!

What’s your favorite thing or memory about ICSB?

I loved the Upper School Retreat, the pep rally, and DVAC games, hanging out with friends, weight lifting class with the boys, and talking to teachers. It was an amazing experience.

What is an experience you’ve had at ICSB that you couldn’t have had anywhere else?

Being in the whole Christian environment where everyone is friendly and genuinely cares about each other.

What are some of the ways you’ve grown since you first came to ICSB?

I've learned to look at things from different perspectives and find an easy way to solve problems. I'd say I have grown mentally and physically. Yeah, I've been hittin' the gym! 😉

What colleges did you apply to and where are you planning to attend?

I'll be attending Iowa State University, studying cyber security engineering in the fall.

What is your dream job?

A cyber security analyst.
